Serie: Nordic Symphonic Band
Johannes Hanssen, educated in Germany, is one of the most important Norwegian composers of orchestra music. He has also written a few pieces for military bands. Bjørn Morten Kjærnes has restored the piece for a modern instrumentation. An interesting point with this march is that unlike many other countries the Baroque way of playing grace notes (on the beat) was kept in Norway a long time in the National-romantic periode. It suits very well with the traditional music and will give this piece a different flavour. So if you have a grace-note tied to an eight note, they both should be played like two sixteenth notes starting on the beat. If you have a double grace note tied to a eight note it should be played lik a sixteenth triplet starting on the beat. Johannes Hanssen is also the composer of the famous Valdres March.
